Lenticular Portals

Studies of the transformative properties of the lenticular lens, magnifying and accentuating the contrast of degraded images manifested through the medium of custom led arrays. The portals consist of 6 pieces inspired by real world phenomena (the heavens, the earth, the sun, and humanity) which transport the viewer into a parallel dimension constructed of light. Typically a lenticular lens is used to animate still images that move depending on the viewing angle. In Lenticular Portals, the array of cylindrical ridges are used to magnify the individual pixels of the digital media behind it, creating a multiplicity of animated images as a viewer engages with the piece from different angles.

The pieces are indulgent, using almost 5000 leds, videos with excessive contrast and fully saturated color. Humans as a species are inherently drawn to light, and this series of works provides an explosive, excessive, sensory experience of moving and warping content.
