What does it mean to be a body?

Presence Container is an interactive sound sculpture that invites the user to trigger nine separate sounds which capture the essence of water, simply using the viewer’s position relative to the piece. It incorporates the Microsoft Kinect to detect depth and movement along the horizontal axis. This information determines which of the nine sounds should be played over the sound exciters, producing intricate ripple patterns in the pool of water.

SEI05

SEI05 is an interactive installation by the artist CHiKA, highlighting the implications of Dr. Rice’s research on cool, very low mass stars, which are numerous throughout the Milky Way Galaxy, and which may host more potentially habitable exoplanets than Sun-like stars do.

In this video, I am using MadMapper to control the various colored LED animations as a functionality test for each LED strip.

Mana Contemporary

As CHiKA's apprentice, I reassembled projects from her archives to test functionality of the LED lighting components. The LED strips are programmed with madMapper connected over Artnet.

Rainbow Waterfall

The Rainbow Waterfall is an interactive sculpture that incorporates LED strips, solenoid valves, lasers, photo resistors and water that are all controlled by an Arduino board. Inspired by the Rain Room by rAndom International, the viewer is invited to risk their hand to the rain inside the sculpture, thus interfering with the laser path which would cause the solenoid valve to close and cease the waterfall coming from above. 

The Self is More Distant Than Any Star

One may understand the cosmos, but never the ego; the self is more distant than any star.

6 neon self portraits with each iteration varying greatly from the previous. This reflection is intended for spiritual release; we can never fully encapsulate our stories. We can't experience the back of our own head; how can we truly know the extent of who we are? We shed our cells and our selves. We are limitless and never-ending.

Life, Love and Death: Dripping Crotch Chandelier

The Dripping Crotch Chandelier is a collaboration with photographer and show curator Anjelica Jardiel. She wanted to recycle her used panties, highlighting any residual menstrual stains. Together, we created the shade by slightly draping the panties over the steel ring, and pouring heavy amounts of resin in such a way that it would pool where the vagina would rest, with any excess slowly dripping off to harden. I welded the chandelier body out of scrap brass materials, and wired 4 candelabra sockets so that pink bulbs could illuminate the entrance of the gallery.
